Today I officially started my summer job at First Graduate (click if you're truly interested). I had more butterflies in my stomach this morning than I did on the first day of college, and that is saying something. My role is a college student mentor, which means that hopefully I'll be able to tell you exactly what that means by the end of this week of training.
The school at which we are stationed is located in the Presidio of San Francisco, which amounts to quite a long commute for me. And because I can't not arrive anywhere super early, it makes it an even longer trip. As a result, there are many early mornings in my future, and so I plan to go to bed early as well. Last night I bet I was asleep before my grandparents (although I don't know how late they stay up, but if the fact that we eat Thanksgiving dinner at 3 PM is any indication, I bet it's not too late)!
There are many many nice people all around, and a free lunch is provided four days a week (I wish they'd told me that before I stocked up on string cheese). I will be working with and hopefully empowering the youth of the greater San Francisco area, while maybe making a few friends in the process. It'll be a lot of work, but there is no feeling more satisfying than waking up with the sun (not really), heading out the door with my briefcase (JanSport), and picking up my morning brew (Frappuccino) on the way to work, knowing that in the evening I'll be bringing home the bacon (figuratively).
